Neighbors Tour Proposed CD Area

On a warm and sunny Saturday, Feb. 3, about 20 neighbors toured the proposed Lakewood North Conservation District with city planner Tracey Cox, looking at architectural features of various homes in the area.

Invitations to the tour were sent to e-mail addresses gathered from sign-in sheets at the Community Meetings.

During the 90-minute walk, Cox pointed out important functional features like drainage direction and amount of impervious surface, as well as architectural features like height, yard setbacks, garage placement, and other characteristics. She also answered questions about how these features could be addressed in a conservation ordinance.

Some neighbors observed existing additions in the area and brainstormed about how they would add on to their homes within the guidelines of a conservation ordinance.

It was a positive and educational experience for all involved. Thanks to Tracey Cox for conducting the tour. If you have questions or concerns about conservation, please contact neighborhood volunteer Karen Amos at 214-914-2215 or Danielle Arvanitis at 972-804-7108.

Confirm Conservation Criteria at third Community Meeting, Feb. 27!

In this meeting, homeowners will be able to discuss and confirm what elements of the neighborhood they would like to conserve, based on the suggestions made at the last meeting.

There are about 18 possible elements including side, front, and back setbacks; height; garage placement; and many others. Together, we can determine the look of new development in our neighborhood.

This meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2007 at 7 p.m at Stonewall Jackson Elementary.

If you want to vote on conservation elements, please bring a photo ID or utility bill bearing your name.
